Cowboys and Indians.

Last week my wonderful friend, as well as extremely talented photgrapher, Katelyn and I did a little photoshooot! I was trying to channel my inner "native american" and she was dressed as a good 'ol "western" woman!
Here are some photos from the shoot--enjoy!

Spotlight: Blake Lively.

Blake Lively has surely been in the spotlight this past year...from being one of Karl Lagerfeld's favorite muses, to a blockbuster film just out, The Green Lantern. I love Blake Lively, and not just because she happens to be in one of my favorite TV shows, Gossip Girl, but because she is always so stylish and chic and yet so "her" and natural, never opting for a "fake" approach to beauty.

And, for that she is my celebrity fashion spotlight for the week:

Go check out Blake in

Frederick Fashion Designer: Claire McCardell

The news post in my city, Frederick, just did an article on a designer named Claire McCardell. She is considered "one of the first iconic American fashion designers" according to the article in the Frederick News Post, and what do you know she was born and raised in my lovely city.

Claire is noted for creating very chic but functional articles of clothing for women in the 30's,40's, and 50's.

To read more about Claire's life and her achievements go to:
http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/art_life/display_lifestyle.htm?storyID=122273

Below is one of my favorite's of her designs, it's so effortlessly chic!

It's so fun stumbling upon such fun and fascinating history as the life of Claire McCardell! Who knew such a phenomenally brilliant fashionista is a native of my own hometown! :)

Kelly Cutrone: Normal Gets You Nowhere

I recently finished reading Kelly Cutrone's newest book, Normal Gets You Nowhere. And, loved every minute of it! Kelly continues to be one of my favorite names in fashion. She inspires me to be brilliant in the art, and to dream, dream, dream. Get to your nearest bookstore and pick up a copy of Normal Gets You Nowhere! ;)

Some of my favorite quotes:

"Fashion is worthwhile and powerful, and can turn Cinderallas into supermodels. But it's not attractive to have the spoils of this world and not feel for people who don't"

"From a young age we're programmed to believe that to be normal means not fighting the injustices all around us."

"There is a calling and demand for beauty, even in the ugliest places. Art is a need of civilazation. Bringing beauty into a place full of pain & suffering is compassionate and productive.

Those are just a few of my favorites from the book. I think what I love most about Kelly is that she is not just passionate about fashion, she is passionate about helping others and changing the world...especially the down and out; which is precisely what I want to do and exactly what this blog is for--to merge fashion with social justice.

Have a fabulous day!
Peace. Love. Joy.
