We hear about the assault on the image of what a woman should look like.
The constant back and forth of what celebrities, and fashion, and models
have created when it comes to self-image.
I think about this often,
because yes I do feel pressure to be something I am not at times.
But, I have come to notice I never feel it from models,
or celebrities, or fashion. In fact,
sometimes I feel, that fashion and celebrities have an ability
to highlight the imperfect and make it lovely.
And, I think that is why fashion in its truest sense
has always struck a cord with me.
You see,
I feel the most pressure from those around me at times;
other girls and women.
Your everyday joe.
How often do adults in your life,
your fellow peers all feel the need to comment on your beauty (or lack of),
your weight; gain or loss
(why has this become the #1 conversation starter?!)
It's a constant barrage.
Sometimes, I think the joke is on us.
We think the entertainment world is setting the bar for what we should be,
when in fact WE are the ones creating the ideal 'image',
whatever it may be at the time,
and telling the entertainers to replicate that...
and they do.
So next time your with your pal,
and make mindless petty comments based on image,
well....don't.
And, when you open your mouth to criticize the skinniness of models,
or the erotic behavior of an entertainer...
maybe consider that it all comes back to the concept of marketing,
and what the consumer (that would be you & I)
are going to buy into.
Thoughts of the day.
peace. love. joy.
